.:. Antica Focacceria San Francesco
The parent focaccia bakery has been on duty in Palermo since 1834. It came into trouble with the Mafia, but finally spread out to include each and every building around the small Piazza San Francesco, except the medieval church. Today the Focacceria has become a company, with branches in several Italian cities.
.:. As for the Milanese branches - another Antica Focacceria is in Via Panfilo Castaldi 37, close to Porta Venezia - purists think that its cuisine is a bit industrial. Citizens and tourists, however, are happy to enjoy caponata, arancini and Sicilian wine served with courtesy a stone's throw from the Duomo.

Brek is a mini-chain of fast-food venues offering the usual Italian fares, good grilled meats and pizzas. Take away, too. Very useful central location.
.:. More Milanese Brek outlets used to be in Via Lepetit, right besides the Central Station, and in Piazza Cavour. But they have both been closed...
Piazzetta Umberto Giordano 1
.:. Caffè Milano
A convenient self-service style restaurant, midway between Piazza Duomo and the Sforza Castle.
.:. The premises used to be run by Garbagnati, perhaps the most famous bakery in town. Since 2010 there's a new management, still selling Garbagnati products. Daily specials, lots of veggies, from 12 through 2:30 pm.

.:. Divina Piadina
Cooked at the moment and fulfilled with a good choice of ingredients, this piadina romagnola is almost as good as the typical one of the north-eastern Italian Riviera around Rimini. Good for a fast break or take away.

The panzerotti (fried dough filled with tomato and mozzarella cheese, typical of Southern Italy) made by this historical bakery are a legend in town. By following your nose, you may find people staying in line in front of the entrance but don't worry: the service is fast and soon you will be able to eat at the counter or simply strolling in the city centre.
