.:. The Piccolo Teatro della Città di Milano was founded after World War Two by the famous director, Giorgio Strehler, soon to become one the best reputed public theaters in Europe.
.:. Its current main headquarters, designed by architect Marco Zanuso, were inaugurated in 1996. Three years later, after the director died, they were entitled to Strehler himself.
.:. Despite its name - "Piccolo" (to be pronounced pee-kko-lo, with the stress on the first vowel) means "little" - the new complex is spacially abundant, a physical as well as cultural presence in the city center.
