The Gallery of Modern Art in Milan (at the Villa Reale) and the Segantini Museum in Sankt Moritz, in the Swiss Engadine valley of Graubünden, boast some of the best paintings by Giovanni Segantini (1858-1899), the most renowned Italian
divisionist. Divisionism was a painting tecnique, not so different from Seurat's
pointillisme, based on the separation of colors into individual dots or patches which interact optically.
.:. The two museums have joined forces to offer a very spectacular exhibition. Segantini's chromatic strength adds to his
simbolism, in big canvases which are frequently set in the Alpine world - though the artist spent many years of his life here in Milan.
.:. The exhibition is officially organized by the Milan City Council, together with the Skira publishing house and the Mazzotta Foundation. The undeniable charm of the paintings is attracting a large audience. Advance
reservations are advisable.
