In the late 1938 Antisemitic Racial Laws passed in Italy. Jews were expelled from schools, isolated from the rest of society and their possessions confiscated. Italian responsibility continued through the years. The Laws were not abrogated when the fascist regime falled on July 25 1943 and 8,000 Italian Jews were deported to death camps. In the year 2000 the Italian State established January 27 as the Shoah Memorial Day.
.:. The Jewish Community of Milan, the CDEC Foundation, the Shoah Memorial Foundation and the Children of the Shoah present music, readings and thoughts on the Memorial Day.
.:. Members of the Milan Conservatorio perform. Ferruccio De Bortoli, editor of the Corriere della Sera national daily newspaper and president of the Shoah Memorial Foundation, chairs the event.
.:. Several other events call, before and after January 27. Visit the Giorno della Memoria website, though in Italian only
