The
FAI (Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano) is a sort of National Trust of Italy, a private foundation allowing old mansions and buildings of historical importance - whose maintenance the owners can no longer afford - to be still open to the public.
.:. Every year, as a promotion for their activity, the FAI organizes the "Giornate FAI di Primavera" or FAI Spring Days, an open door weekend throughout Italy. Hundreds of fascinating churches and palazzos otherwise closed to the public, or usually difficult to enter, can be exceptionally visited.
.:. In Milan you can visit this year, among others, the world famous
Fratelli Branca distillery in Via Resegone, the
Fondazione Gianfranco Ferré in the fashion district of Via Tortona, and the
Piccolo Teatro Strehler behind its curtains. Entrance to some of the buildings is restricted to FAI members, but you can get your membership at the moment.
.:. An iPhone and Android
App is available, with a list of all the visitable places, and the way to reach them. Both the dedicated website and the app, however, are in Italian only.
