Carefully designed - as "every
performance is rehearsed in advance" - by thinking and rethinking, both on the computer and later in person, where exactly each and every
installation, video, picture, drawing or animal should be placed, this is the first (and beautiful) anthological exhibition of works by Joan Jonas ever organized in Italy.
.:. Despite technology, while entering the vast and wonderful darkness ot the Hangar Bicocca you feel like experiencing a forest of
archetypes, where you happen to identify yourself with a coyote or a dream. The only reason why the artist cannot be called a shaman is that "I don't go into any trance".
.:. Jonas (New York, NY, 1936) is considered as a major figure for the history and theory of performance. Her works here span from 1971 to 2013. A bilingual booklet with all the texts implied is available free.
.:. On Tuesday, October 21, 9pm, Joan
performs at the Hangar with Jason Moran, and the performance is entitled
Reanimation.
