For Formula 1 enthusiasts it is a not-to-be-missed rendez-vouz, an outdoor happening to attend with friends, bringing - why-not? - a picnic. Striving for the Grand Prix at this 89th Gran Premio d'Italia will be some twenty cars from world renowned teams like Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren and Red Bull.
.:. The race-course itself is a monument to engineering - it was established in the 1920s - though its location in the middle of a park is a permanent source of controversy. Monza very often sees the highest speeds of the Formula 1 season. It was the scene of the fastest ever lap by an F1 car, set in 2004 by Juan Pablo Montoya driving a Williams.
