Born in the first light of the morning
October 6, 2022 through January 29, 2023

more pictures .:. The first personal exhibition of Dineo Seshee Bopape (Polokwane, 1981) ever held in Italy results from the history of her South Africa and her personal story. The artist, however, testifies of many other countries that used to be colonies. Huts and bricks are made of soil and plants, with coal and gold to show how those countries were sacked. The language may resemble Arte Povera, but in a context that is more lively, really multiple, and historically significant.
.:. "Born in the first light of the morning (or, in an African language, moswara’marapo) is a subtly fascinating and deeply revealing exhibition, not afraid to rely on old turntables to bring the sounds of ocean to the ears of visitors.
