slideshow .:. The Hangar art director, Vicente Todolí, asked himself how to entitle a retrospective of works by a unique artist like James Lee Byars (Detroit, 1932-Cairo, 1997). The answer was simple: James Lee Byars. No other titles could have matched.
.:. Perhaps perfection, resulting from a long and deep immersion into the Japanese culture, and patience, a human quality frequently invoked by Byars, could have provided some other hints. Add calligraphy and empathy, and a sketch of the exhibition can be drawn.
.:. Sizes are often generous, yet not always needed. Shapes, colours (mostly red and white) and materials go beyond any sketch. Come and see, please.
