Nearly one hundred artworks by leading international artists of the 20th century like Massimo
Campigli,
Christo, Salvador
Dalí, Giorgio
de Chirico, Lucio
Fontana, Mario
Schifano, Mario
Sironi, Robert
Rauschenberg (pictured), and Andy
Warhol are currently on show free of charge in Milan. How it comes? Why these artworks? And where do they come from?
.:. They are not on loan, nor are the property of leading international museums. Instead, they used to be private investment properties of Italian
criminal organisations – like Mafia, Camorra, or ‘Ndrangheta – before being confiscated by the Italian State and returned to the public. They are Commons again, fortunately.
.:. This peculiar temporary exhibition is traveling around the country: Rome first, then Milan, and finally Reggio di Calabria, all its artworks to be later distributed among other
public museums across the Peninsula respecting their geographical – if the word fits – origin, and their language. The relevant State representatives have introduced the initiative as a show of strength by the Italian State against Mafia, Camorra, and ‘Ndrangheta. This is certainly true. Decent people hope it’s going to be enough.
