Somehow as a birthday present, the long-established Marconi gallery displays an extremely interesting ensemble of works by Valerio Adami (Bologna, 1935). Those of us who have become accustomed to his most popular paintings – human shapes strongly defined by contours – are surprised here by the candid expressionism of Adami's early works, and may begin to think that they never understood the artist for real.
.:. The exhibition includes paintings dating from the 1950s, and works from the 1960s and 1970s. Some mature works from the 1990s are shown alongside drawings that were either preceding or executed at a later stage.
.:. Retrospective exhibits of Adami's work were organized in Madrid, Siena, Bochum, and Buenos Aires. Yet, it was here at Marconi's that the artist's career took off, and it does not come as a surprise that the architecture perfectly frames the artworks. By the way, do not think that the place is an average art gallery. Rather, it's a foundation, and a welcoming museum.
