A cold exhibition? Or a
cool one? Well... both. Northern Europe has always been a place for order. It was a Swedish scientist to invent taxonomy, after all, and Germans are known the world over for being disciplined, in their country at least.
.:. Yet the idea of organizing hundreds of historical photos by
typologies is not something boring, this time. Plants, museums, bus stops, zoos, faces mix up side by side suggesting regularity less than contamination. And collections of portraits by August
Sander, disquieting as they may look, compel you to think that photography is inevitably political.
.:. So are pictures at the end of the exhibition, shot in Auschwitz in 1945. A warning introduces them. "If someone witnesses a horror, they cannot say that they are unaware of it."
