Pellizza da Volpedo. I capolavori
September 26, 2025 through January 25, 2026
Giuseppe Pellizza (Volpedo, 1868-Milano, 1907) is particularly famous in Italy – and outside Italy – for his large Il Quarto Stato canvas (The Fourth Estate, pictured), showing proletarians marching in proudly as the 19th-century addition to the traditional three estates, i.e. the clergy, the nobility, and the bourgeoisie.
.:. Pellizza, however, produced other valuable artworks in his life, though most of them have gone nearly unnoticed.
.:. The current exhibition is meant to fill the gap, adding to the property of the City of Milan – which owns Il Quarto Stato – several paintings from other institutions and private collections.
