The Società Umanitaria is a progressive Milanese institution that has been around since 1893. It has always occupied the awkward space between social welfare, education and culture. Every summer its cloisters open up, and the city comes in.
.:. Estate nei Chiostri is the result: a seven-week programme of talks, concerts, theatre, film and exhibitions that runs on weekday evenings through late July. It is not a festival in the glossy sense.
.:. The audience is mixed, the events are mostly free or cheap, and the conversations tend to go somewhere. This year's edition has five recurring series, a documentary, student exhibitions and a run of short theatre pieces.
