August is the month when most of the Milanese go on holiday. Signs saying Chiuso per Ferie, closed for vacation, are posted almost everywhere, and things to do and see in town are few and far between. Only some very central districts look as usual, because attractive sales still concentrate both locals and tourists, on weekends particularly. Anyway, the city is really deserted around August 15, called Ferragosto, when even the diehards surrender and abandon Milan.
.:. Visitors who accept the risk of hot weather (as everywhere else in Europe, by the way) find some notable exceptions. Assorted open-air spots – the Sforza Castle among them – provide backdrops for concerts and performances.

Through August, you can enjoy nearly every day the Triennale (open on Ferragosto, too), the Brera Art Gallery, the Poldi Pezzoli museum, the Gallerie d'Italia near the Duomo, and the exclusive fascination of the Fondazione Prada. As for less cultured youngsters, they might appreciate the events run no stop at Base.
