Le dame dei Pollaiolo
November 7, 2014 through February 16, 2015

A profile portrait of a Lady - like a slhouette, yet so beautiful that she seems alive - painted by Piero del Pollaiolo has become the icon of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, one of the most oustanding private art collections in the world. No better idea, therefore, than confronting the Poldi Lady with three other profile portraits by Piero or his brother Antonio, currently kept in Berlin (Gemäldegalerie), Florence (Uffizi) and New York (Metropolitan Museum).
.:. The first task accomplished is a revamped Poldi brand, as the Milanese Lady is very clearly the most fascinating in the four. But there's another task carried out, and it's research. Nowadays, most art exhibitions are based on gathering renowned artwork, in order to attract a larger target audience and sell tickets. This exhibition instead, which assembles brilliant artwork and also provides a real catalogue, with real contributions by real scholars, is a welcome change.
.:. Sometimes exceptions deserve to be made, and the main sponsor must be mentioned. Thanks to Fondazione Bracco.
