.:. art / a meteoric painter
February 7 through September 27, 2020
reopened from May 28, 2020
Currently considered among the most outstanding painters in 17th-century France, de La Tour (1593-1652) left few documents concerning his life. His works were nearly forgotten, and he entered the official history of art in relatively recent times. As his refined candle-lit chiaroscuro technique reveals, de La Tour was certainly influenced by Caravaggio's art, but we don't know if he ever travelled to Italy.
This major exhibition, with artworks on temporary loan from twenty-eight museums and galleries from all over the world, has also provided the opportunity to provide an updated catalogue of the artist's works. The mistery of a meteoric painter begins, perhaps, to be revealed.
