Saul Steinberg Milano New York
October 15, 2021 through May 1st, 2022

one picture only .:. "Reasoning on paper" was the approach of Romanian-American Saul Steinberg (1914-1999) to his art: drawing. Apparently naive but often ironic, his mix of bare black-and-white signs with colour explosions created an original language, absolutely suited to 20th-century life.
.:. Steinberg is best known for his contributions to The New Yorker as a cartoonist and illustrator. Some of his "Views of the World from 9th Avenue", however, moved to Milan, for instance to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (detail above).
.:. The current exhibition at the Triennale, curated by Italo Lupi (a designer and editor) and Marco Belpoliti (a writer), looks less a celebration than a duty.
