Icarus
March 27 through July 27, 2025
one picture only
.:. Japan, says
Yukinori Yanagi (Fukuoka, 1959), is the only country in the world hit hard by the nuclear power four times: bombing of Hiroshima (1945), bombing of Nagasaki (1945), first H-bomb test at Bikini (1952), and accident at Fukushima (2021). He might add that, after all, Bikini was the site of sixty-seven nuclear tests between 1946 to 1958, but this doesn't matter too much. The artist currently lives apart at
Momoshima, an island in the Hiroshima Prefecture.
.:. Yanagi has had a long and successful international career, opened by his contribution to the 45th Venice Biennale in 1993. There he presented hundred seventy coloured sand
flags that crumbled day by day due to the unremitting work of thousands of live ants. Now, after thirty-two years, Yanagi returns to Italy with a major exhibition.
.:. Take your visit seriously. Be careful when walking in the dark and seeing yourselves
mirrored among transparent writings that retrace the story of Icarus. Bombs hang from the Hangar's ceiling. Don't be pessimist, though, and appreciate. Avoid trusting technology too much, anyway,
