.:. art / Morandi or rhythm?

William Kentridge
February 6 through April 5, 2026

one picture only .:. Here at the Brera district the Metafisica/Metafisiche project by the City is presumed to feature an homage by Kentridge (Johannesburg, 1955) to Giorgio Morandi, a Bolognese master painter of still lives from the 20th century.
.:. Morandi had a deep metaphysical sensibility, that certainly Kentridge can grasp and reproduce. As a matter of fact, however, the reproduction here is limited to a quite physical still life (pictured), while the core of the exhibition is provided by "More Sweetly Play the Dance", a splendid multi-screen video, with music, totally independent from Morandi.
.:. The moral? Kentridge does not need Morandi more than Morandi needs Kentridge.
