Calder Sculpting Time
May 5 through October 6. 2024
Alexander Calder (Lawnton, Pennsylvania, 1898 - New York, New York, 1976) was perhaps the most original sculptor – if the word fits – in the 20th century. By introducing movement to a static art form, the artist extended the medium beyond the visual into the temporal dimension.
.:. This is the first comprehensive solo exhibition in a Swiss public institution devoted to Calder in nearly fifty years. Over thirty masterpieces created between 1931 and 1960 come from major international public and private collections, including a large body of works loaned from the Calder Foundation, New York.
.:. The city of Lugano, where Italian is the everyday language, can be easily reached from Milano by train. The ride takes just a bit more than an hour.
