Locarno Film Festival

For the 78th year, Locarno's Piazza Grande is at the heart of the eponymous international film festival. Every early August thousands of moviegoers fill the Main Square of the Swiss-Italian town for eleven nights, while industry professionals congregate - here at the crossroads of Italian, German and French cultures - to attend world premières and discover emerging artists.
.:. Locarno's awards are called Pardi, or Leopards. Some of them are assigned among a selection of renowned directors, others to promising new talents (Pardi di Domani) or seasoned artists.This year career Pardi go to Jackie Chan, Emma Thompson, Lucy Liu and Alexander Payne (pictured). The program involves nine venues. Films at Piazza Grande, to begin with, are listed here.
