Palma il Vecchio
March 13 through June 22, 2015
A contemporary of Lorenzo Lotto, and - according to some - a pupil of Titian, the painter Jacopo Palma (c. 1480-1528) was born near Bergamo, specifically in the village of at Serina Alta. This is certainly the reason why the municipality of Bergamo has taken the stance to choose him as the star for the biggest local exhibition during the Expo 2015 - trying to repeat the successful season of the Lotto event of 1998..
.:. Jacopo Palma is called by art historians Palma Vecchio, or "Palma the Elder". His great-nephew Jacopo Nigreti (1548/50-1628), nicknamed Palma il Giovane, was much more famous and reputed.
