In the street flanking the left side of the Scala is the small church of St. Joseph, designed between 1607 and 1630 by Francesco Maria Ricchino.

Its plan, a fusion of two centralized units, broke away from the prevailing academic Mannerism and is considered a landmark in the history of architecture.
