Cere anatomiche
March 24 through July 17, 2013
At their Museo della Specola the University of Florence also exhibits a spectacular collection of wax anatomical reconstructions of animals and people, which had been made in the 18th century to assist in training doctors and vets.
.:. The dissections, obviously fictitious even if copied from real creatures, show the layers of their internal organs, even in the somewhat shocking cases of pregnant women and their unborn twins.
.:. The Prada Foundation asked David Cronenberg (Toronto, 1943) to create a video on the collection, the projection of which visitors can see before going up to pay homage to a series of showcases with anatomical drawings and ladies' mannequins. One of them (still?) wears a pearl necklace.
