Nari Ward. Ground Break
March 28 through July 28, 2024
one picture only
.:. Nari Wards' voice is surprising. Clear and calm, his words meaningful. He mentions Arte Povera as one of his reference, though this is not immediately apparent from the artwork exhibited at the Hangar these weeks. Ward comes from Harlem, and it shows. Objets trouvées provide the material, Africa and the States do so for the background.
.:. Among the three spaces that make up the Hangar, Ward (St. Andrew, Jamaica, 1963) embraces the largest one, filling it with a dreamy hanging cradle, a platform for musical performamces - be lucky to be there at the right time - plus other installations, videos, pallets (wow!), shopping carts and phone booths, both American and Italian.
.:. If this does not mean anything for you, please come and see. And don't try to take photos: like for totem poles, it's a useless effort.
