.:. art / Ferdinand Hodler - Filippo Franzoni

Ferdinand Hodler - Filippo Franzoni
April 13 through August 10, 2025

While living in Locarno at the end of the 19th century, Hodler (1853-1918) painted a river view in the evening (pictured). The shapes of the mountains are reflected in the water, doubling. The reflections multiply the lines and create a symmetry in which nature seems almost ordered by a secret rule.
.:. Along with Filippo Franzoni (1857-1911), Hodler was a key figure in modern art in Switzerland between the 19th and the 20th centuries. The exhibition is the first to forge a dialogue between their works, including lesser known creations, from public and private collections, above all from Switzerland. Similarities and differences between their practices are on show, in a dialogue that offers insight into the Swiss art scene at those times
.:. The city of Lugano, where Italian is the everyday language, can be easily reached from Milano by train. The ride takes just a bit more than an hour. The museum is just downhill the railway station.
